Hi, my name is Bryan Mudryk and I'm currently a sports anchor with TSN in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. I report during the week and anchor SportsCentre on the weekends. In my opinion, I have the best job in the world! (and my boss didn't even tell me to say that!). I'm also a cancer survivor!

I was born and raised in Boyle, Alberta, Canada surrounded by family and friends. I played plenty of sports growing up, including baseball, golf, curling, and even chess, (is that a sport?).  At one point I was even considering a career in professional baseball.  However, I soon found out I was no Larry Walker, so I went with option 'B'.

When I was 16, I decided that I wanted to become a Sports Anchor, this was my plan.  And everything was going according to plan until 1996In 1996, when I was 17 years old, I was diagnosed with Hodgkin's disease.  It was a scary time in my life.  Months of extensive chemotherapy and radiation followed.  Finally, things were looking up.  But in December of 1998 my worst fears, once again, became reality when I found out that my cancer had returned.  This time I underwent a stem cell transplant and even more intense chemo.  Doctors told my parents "we're going to bring your son an inch away from death, then bring him back".  It was a long, grueling recovery, but I'm happy to report I'm now cancer free and a Sports Anchor.  However, my battle against this disease is far from over.

These events have had an overwhelming impact on my life.  Cancer affects children, families and friends.  The fight never stops.  That is why I hold the annual Bryan Mudryk Golf Classic.  Together, with support from businesses, organizations , family, and friends, we can give back to the hospital that's given so many others a second chance at life.  All the proceeds from this event go directly to the Cross Cancer Institute in Edmonton to raise money for Cancer Research and Treatment equipment.  That way, it stays in the community, helping people IN the community.  During the last 5 years, we've raised over $200,000 dollars, and are the 3rd most successful golf tournament for the Cross Cancer Institute in northern Alberta.

Together, we can make a major difference and touch each others lives.

Sincerely,
Bryan Mudryk
