United Cycle to Boyle Bike Marathon a
Smashing Success!!!
On June 9th, 2007 at exactly 9:30 a.m. I left
the fine folks at Volvo Rents-Bonus Rentals in Fort Saskatchewan
and began to make my way to the town of Boyle. With my lovely wife
Kristen and my mother Terri driving the pilot vehicles we were
immediately met with an atrocious wind from the east!
However, with a few bites on the tongue and a jug of Gatorade
later we were met with an extremely warm welcome by the folks at
the Waskateneau Starchuk/Semeniuk Memorial Baseball Tournament.
Arriving at the ball diamonds at about 12:45 PM, we stopped at our
pledging booth for a rest and the opportunity to meet some
fantastic people. Special thanks to Sheila and Auntie Elsie for
taking the time to look after the booth and door prize draws for
us during the day! At 2:00 PM it was back to work as our little
convoy headed north on 831 in search of that 'Welcome to Boyle'
sign. There was only 56 KM standing in our way…… and at
exactly 4:55 p.m. I am proud to say that we were standing at the
Boyle city limits….. and yes I did kiss the sign. Unbelievably,
in 6 hours and 15 minutes of biking time the United Cycle to Boyle
Bike Marathon was completed and I was still fairly vertical!!! On
June 23rd, 2007 at the Bryan Mudryk Golf Classic dinner banquet
the Lance Armstrong Trek highway bike was auctioned off for an
amazing $2800.00 !!! In total, the United Cycle to Boyle Bike
Marathon raised just over $8000.00 for the Cross Cancer Institute
in Edmonton.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank
Tony Fragomeni of United Cycle for supporting this event from the
start! Couldn't have done it without you! Also, the employees of
Enbridge Pipelines Inc. as their support of this fundraiser was
nothing short of amazing. Our silver sponsor Neway Oilfield
Services for their support as well as for providing the pilot
vehicle and the absolutely stunning pilot driver. Also, special
thanks to the boy's at Volvo Rents-Bonus Rentals in Fort
Saskatchewan for hosting the kick off for the United Cycle to
Boyle Bike Marathon.
It's pretty tough to have a fundraising event
if no one knows about it - Sharon & Danny at 790 CFCW you were
fantastic! And I absolutely cannot say enough about the crew at
CFRN - thank-you so much for going above and beyond in ensuring
this event was a success!! And thank-you to Chris Mudryk for all
of your time spent on keeping our website page looking so sharp!
And last but not least - LOL to my mom and wife
Kristen for being there every 'pedal' of the way!
Thanks to everyone who supported this event
through their pockets, prayers and words of encouragement.
